Keep practicing, Roswell, and you'll be flying like a pilot very soon.

Well done Roswell. It won't be long before you are zipping about like you used to.

That is great news, Marianne. Wow, hasn't that taken some time? You have done well to get him to this stage, and it is totally understandable that he needs to build up is flying muscles again. Yay, Roswell, go you good thing!

Yay, Roswell, go you good thing! Months and months Hezz! Because we decided not to put him through the stress of having the old feathers plucked out. So obviously new ones took longer to grow. Still needs a few more but he can fly and gain height. Keep an eye on him though!

Marianne Marlow. This is brilliant news. Has he stopped biting at them? Are you pretty sure that was the problem? Any idea why Roswell started doing it? Questions, questions, so many questions.

He seems to have stopped preening them so hard yes. The vet couldn't find anything wrong with him physically, we think it was emotional. He had a close friend, Jerry that we lost a year ago and Roswell took it pretty badly.

I suppose every living thing grieves in its own way, just because we label it that way we think it is the same as how we feel but other creatures react differently.
Am soooo glad Roswell is on the mend tho and coming out of mourning x

Seems that some can form and break bonds and be okay, and others appear really affected by social change or bereavement. Did Roswell's standing in the flock change when Jerry died? Or even over the ensuing months?

Yes, Jerry was quite a dominant little tearaway and always used Roswell as back-up with his fights with Monty. Roswell likes to be preened, fed and taken care of.

Sounds like an old man, set in his ways and resistant and confused by change. Poor Roswell. Lovable old codger. Has he done his fabulous dance at all recently? That's a top ten moment for me.

I don't have that playground anymore and he's not been out much so, no dancing yet! He's only 3 years 5 months, hardly old

I knew a guy like that when I was around 19 years old. As well as the old-fashioned slip-on men's slippers and robe, he used to meticulously stir his tea, 10 times in one direction, 10 times in the other, then two "bings" with the spoon on the side of the cup. He was 20 going on 65.
