I bought quite a large bag of millet and did all the recommended things: i.e. rinsed in clean water, then soaked in FS10, then pat dry with kitchen roll, hung in bathroom to dry, wrapped in dry towel and put above raidiator. I thought it was dry, so stored it in a clean plastic bag (sealed). Now I see very, very minor white fluff on it in various places. It is only very slight. I obviously didn't dry it thoroughly. Should I now throw it away? If I touch the fluffy bits they disappear. Can any of you guys tell me what to do please?

To be honest I would throw it away, any type of mould is dangerous, I used to buy millet loose but now buy the bagged millet as its cleaner, the only thing is its not cheaper.

Thanks for the reply - I think I will throw it away, it's not worth the risk. I did buy the bagged millet which I will do again so - do you think it still needs washing or spraying with FS10??

Hi Seed is best washed in the days feeding amount , not in bulk. That's what turned it mouldy... You can feed damp seeds, You'll find the birds really like it. Shiny seed in fancy bags aint no cleaner than any other kind. Seed creates it's own dust just from the friction of seed rubbing seed The shiny appearance is from a can of oil....B.J.

If you are washing millet to store for a while, it's really important for it be as dry as a bone before you pack it away. You've just learnt a lesson though, so it's not all bad!
