I was given a can of spray on carpet sanitizer. I thought about using (away from my bird), but as I read it, it said specifically: DO NOT USE AROUND BIRDS.
I'm not going to use it at all, even downstairs, just in case.
This is just a reminder really, to check anything you clean with around the home, and if in any doubt, don't use it.

Good spotting, glad you saw that warning in time Stace. Have you got a steam cleaner? That's what you need I think...I'd lend you mine if you were nearer!!

Nice one Stace....I now ONLY clean around the house with diluted vinegar (which does the trick better than the shop bought cleaners),carpets just get a wash down with water...oven gets cleaned with baking soda and poor O/H will never have fried bacon in my house a i throw out the Teflon frying pan.... Any other natural solution ideas would be welcome Oh and i am going to make my own wall paper paste of flour water and sugar....x Thinking about it i had to get a new toaster which i took round to my mum for her to use and burn of the newness of it (she thought i was mad until she used it and could even smell something coming from it) Also read about new cookers that you should never but a self clean cooker and again if possible to run the cooker some where else for a while before putting it in your house with our birdies...

I threw out my only Teflon pan too. A drop of vanilla extract in your cleaning up water is good for natural deodorising around the house.

It would be interesting to hear what other natural products everyone uses. Someone will probably tell me I shouldn't be using it because it's one of the 'banned items' I've seen listed, but I put a couple of drops of tea tree oil on cloths when I'm cleaning the birds cages. I've read that it deters mites and after Freddie got feather mites a few weeks ago, even though the birds are kept inside I didn't want to risk it happening again. Tea tree oil is also anti-bacterial and has loads of uses. I wouldn't use it directly on any of the birds though

It's fine to use as you are doing with a few drops for cage cleaning, but you are right, it can be toxic if you use it directly on the birds like a treatment.
