How are things going with your buds Rachael. Im still having probs with mine , im still having to round them up and get them in at night. Yesterday was better 3 were in and 1 was out last night at 6pm but tonight ive just had to go and get them ALL in again even though ive had a night light on since 3pm inside. Now they all came out at 8.30 this morning and have been out all day which also means they are not eating or drinking all day . Im really at a loss as ive never had this prob before, they just dont want to be in for some reason. The only option i feel is to do a lock in now and look into getting a daylight bulb for the inside as these dark days it is very gloomy inside even though i have two small windows. Im really trying to resist bringing them indoors until we see if we get this very cold snap as they much prefer the Aviary and the room they have. Its all very strange.

i was thinking of just wireing the main light onto a timer switch with a on off over ride switch .... but your way should work as well... . let us no how it goes..... . I'm not sure that I could do that because of the wiring is neatly hidden in the walls.

Mine are still being pains Today is my first full day off work since Saturday so I am determined to get the lighting situation sorted out. I wouldn't worry too much about them being out all day, some of mine are like that but they are definitely all eating and drinking. Have you considered putting a water dish outside for them? I have a big one that hangs on the netting that they use as a bath in warm weather. No food though, don't want to attract mice, rats, or slugs I have a daylight bulb and a nightlight bulb. Only the night one is on a timer, my day one just has a light switch. I'm hoping Micks' suggestion will work, I'll let you know how it goes tonight ;D Last night 8 of the little ratbags were still outside at quarter past five. My dad had to go and shoo them in because I was running late for work. Imagine a lot of swearing from him as he tried to pick up one of the adult hens and she bit him ;D

At last, ive just got in and they were all in BUT i wont hold my breath . I have got a water dish outside so that's ok but i never put food out, they all look well fed so i guess they are getting enough in the evening and first thing in the morning. Im still struggling with the lighting, just as a temp measure i put one of those battery night lights in, it must have lasted all of 2 hours so the weekend is a lighting job for me too . Let me know how goes, i guess we will get it sorted but its a new one on me, the last six years have gone without a hitch, i don't know whats got into them all .

I usually have to give them a little nudge to make them go in ;D
