Hi everyone. A couple of days ago I had posted a question about my budgie's gender, which can be seen here:
budgerigarsforum.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=gender&action=display&thread=4669
The discussion there had turned into ways I can help my budgie, Misty, because she makes a clicking sound and her tail bobs when she breathes. She's been diagnosed with a tumour by a veterinarian. I've decided to start a new thread here because the questions I have don't relate to her gender anymore.
The avian vet I took Misty to didn't seem very helpful (and I've noticed now that her name wasn't the one on the contact card), so I've been looking for alternative ways to treat her.
I was given a few suggestions by the members of this forum. The first one was to treat her with a product called SCATT. I've ordered it already, and it's on its way in the mail. The second suggestion was to put a few drops of Lugol's Iodine into Misty's water, which brings me to my next question...
I went to the store today, looking for iodine tincture (25mg/ml) to try until the SCATT arrives. The first store I went to an employee said she had iodine that could be dropped into water, however, on the back it says:
"Each ml (20 drops) contains: Iodine... 1 mg".
So I left the store because I wasn't sure it was the correct product or dosage.
The next two stores had never heard of iodine tincture. The third store had a product that said iodine tincture 2.5% on the bottle, but when I read the back, it said "For use on minor cuts and wounds". It didn't sound edible, so I left and went back to the first store and bought the first product I looked at.
So below, I have a picture of the product I bought today. It doesn't say anywhere on the bottle that it's Iodine Tincture, but it does say on the back:
"Helps in the function of the thyroid gland."
The recommended adult dosage is 10 drops in water once daily. Is this the correct product? Or should I take it back to the store and try looking in some more stores?
If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it. I'm so sorry for the long post. Thank you in advance!
