Hi everyone, I will give you a bit of background as to why I am asking/ Lilly is near the end of a serious molt and up until a few days ago she was fine. Now she just seems to take these episodes where she preens herself and gets really angry- she makes that noise hens do when they are chasing the males away- kind of like a fast cheep?? She is very playful, eating and drinking as usual and poo looks normal. As I said she is near the end of moulting ,it is just the soft down feathers that are coming out now. Maybe she is just ratty and I am comparing her to my laid back Kiwi who looks like the hellraiser when he molts, but never makes a cheep. Although I thought she would have been more ratty before, when the moulting was at it's worst? I have not bought any new perches etc so where would they come from and surely if she did have it Kiwi would also get them and he is fine. My first thought was to buy anti- mite drops but it would really distress her if I had to catch her to do this so I want to be sure first. What are the signs, symptoms of mites. Thanks

Some budgies look very rough during molt. Only a picture can confirm the mites.

Thanks Mick. I sprayed her today and she loved it Poor wee thing though, she was going nuts tonight, it seems to bother her more at night, or maybe it's because I am sitting next to them so notice it more? I can only look at her not pick her up but nothing looks different and today I only seen a couple of tiny feathers on the bottom of her cage, so I think she is finished or almost finished moulting. Woudn't Kiwi have mites by now if thats what it was? Also is there anything I can get to just spray her without picking her up. I have a vet 2 mins from me and if she was hand tame I would take her in a flash, but I am afraid of distressing, or injuring her if I try to catch her.

They can look really awful when they moult. And it can go on for a while.
