I noticed that my youngest hen's beak began getting longer in late, late Summer and by September, it was long enough to touch her breast ( within approx. 3-4 weeks). I asked a local pet shop owner about trimming it, who is also a registered vet tech, and she said that if I trimmed it and it grew back, she probably has a liver disease. I've trimmed it, trimmed it again about a month later and now it's time to trim again. So, I'm guessing she has liver disease. ?? Last summer I picked milk thistle from my backyard for everyone because it was growing wild, but this Summer there was none in my backyard (long drought and horribly cold winter). I've looked online for anything about milk thistle leaves in a medicinal form that I could give her and was told by a source that sells milk thistle (for humans only, I found out)that it's not the leaves, but the seeds that are medicinal. Is there anyone that knows what I can give Cinnamon for her possible liver disease? I guess I'm directing this to Barrie. Again.

milk thisel techer form a health or herbal shop. Thats what my vet told me, i could only flind one that had other herbal stuff in it as well as milk thisel and ran them past him and he said they should be ok. Its A.Vogel Milk Thistle Complex Drops. Ive been using 1 drop in eagles water for ages now with no problem except it does have a strong smell so i have to water it down quite a bit so eagle will drink it so there proberly isnt 1 drop once ive added more water. He gets it 1 day on and 1 day off and his poops have improved as they were all over the place in colour and consistancy which is why they thought he was having liver prob.

thank you both, mick and ppvallhunds! Using your information, I found a supply of Milk Thistle here in the States and have decided on getting tablets that I can crush and "sprinkle" on the seeds. www.wellvet.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&key=SILYMBirds: Crush and "salt" on foods that are well consumed, twice daily For birds we often recommend a liquid, alchohol free tincture, I decided on the pills as I did not know exactly how much I would need to put in the water if I went with the tincture.
