Hi, I wash my birds cage every day with Johnsons spray and then rinse but was wondering if there was a better method or product. Also when it comes to the cage bars how do you rinse it daily as it isn't that easy to do and I am worried there might be some residue left on . I use milton for the food/grit and water bowls- all stainless. I soak them in a bucket and rinse really well. Is there a better way of doing this? Finally what is the best way to clean real bark perches? Thanks

Most people use F10 for cleaning everything. Here is a site from UK: www.f10biocare.co.uk/dr.htmlOr google F10 disinfectant. Someone else from the UK will have an on-line site you can order from.

Can anyone tell me please what the active ingredient is in F10? I'm using a few drops of Tea Tree Oil for cleaning the cages as I'd rather use natural products where I can but don't know if it's as effective as F10.

Ask them, Lesley. The best answer is straight from the horse's mouth.

It doesn't list the ingredients. But, I know it can be used around birds/aniamals w/o any harm. It's non-toxic, non-irritating, non-corrosive, and biodegradable. It's a Veterinary Disinfectant that can used around animals. www.f10biocare.co.uk/sc.htmlI have teatree oil, too, and even it needs to be diluted for use on the skin at times.

Hi, thanks everyone. I am using this now and its great but still a bit concerned about rinsing, especially the bars. my cage is washed everyday but rinsing the bars is difficult everyday. Do you have to do a hose down type of rinse or just wipe with wet kitchen towel?

I don't have it, but I am fairly sure from memory, that it doesn't require rinsing off. Someone who has been using it for ages should be able to put you right.

On the ready to use stuff, there is (in very small type) directions...quote: "DIRECTIONS FOR USE Use only as directed Disinfection of hard surfaces and equipmentRinse with water. Apply F10 DISINFECTANT READY TO USE as a wash or through a spray to leave dry Disinfection of air spacesApply F10 DISINFECTANT READY TO USE through a spray and leave to dry" As for cleaning your perches with F10, I wipe down, rinse with water then spray with F10 and leave to dry. Hope that helps

As i said wiping bars every day is difficult,I'm keen but not that keen ;D My bottle isn't the ready to use but i am going to order it- saves time, hassle. The instructions on the concentrated aren't too clear thats why i asked. if you think about it though it would be difficult for vets etc to rinse all the time. As for the perches that is good to know as I hate dirty perches and would feel better knowing i can just spray them. So just to check , I clean all dirt of everything and give a wipe with water then spray and just leave to dry? Thanks again

Welcome Yes, just to confirm clean all dirt (i.e. poops ) from the perches give a wipe all over with a damp cloth, remove excess water drips etc and then spray with Ready to Use F10 and leave to dry. I have also found a more detailed description info for all about dilution if you dont have ready to use F10: F10SC is a total spectrum disinfectant that, unlike other strong disinfectants on the market, has no adverse side effects on people, animals, or on equipment and surfaces. It is ecologically friendly and biodegradable, and carries a wide range of registrations and approvals from around the world.
In Australia, F10SC is registered by the APVMA for use in animal production and housing facilities, approved by AQIS for use in food export processing as a non-rinse disinfectant, and is also listed by the TGA as a Hospital Grade Disinfectant.
The benefits of using F10SC include:
Kills all types of pathogen – F10SC is bactericidal, virucidal, fungicidal, sporicidal.
Minimal chance of microbial resistance due to F10SC’s unique benzalkonium chloride and polyhexamethylene biguanide combination of actives and mode of action.
*Rapid kill times – less than 30 secs for gram positive bacteria, 60 secs for gram negative bacteria, Canine Parvovirus 20 mins.
Successfully tested against avian influenza (bird flu) viruses at a concentration of 1:500 in 10 mins.
Non-corrosive, non-toxic, non-tainting, non-irritating, aldehyde-free.
Highly cost effective.
Biodegradable & ecologically friendly.
Tried, tested, independently verified and documented, and approved around the world.
How to dilute F10Sc: General disinfection of hard surfaces: dilute 1:500. High level disinfection: dilute 1:250 For the most resistant viruses (eg parvovirus): dilute 1: 125.
How long will 200ml of F10SC disinfectant last? If you use 2L of a workable solution per day for High Level Disinfection, you will have enough F10SC for 25 days
