Hi All
Out of 2 pair, 1 female has laid 2 eggs. Another pair is mating daily but no sign of eggs yet. What care needs to be taken when female budgie lays an egg. I have 2 pair in 1 cage with 1 nest-box n 2 earthen pot. Female budgie has laid egg in one of the Pot. She is sitting on egg n I am hoping 3rd today as today is 6th day since 1st egg was layed. Light provided is more 15 hours approximately. Food provided is maze, carrot , Coriander leaves , seeds and diet seeds , cuttlebone n water mixed with cuttlebone. Kindly let me know what care I need to take further for successful breeding?
Thanks
SAM

Looks like you have a colony breeding setup. I would like to see the pictures of the setup to tell what can you do or improve. Normally in such setup, there is nothing much you can do. Nest box inspections are either not possible or not advised. However regular things such as washing the water feeders and changing the water daily, changing the soft-food every few hours and providing them with plenty of seeds, calcium, cuttlebone, iodine block etc is very important.

Hi All
Female budgie laid 1st egg on 7th , 2nd on 9th both in same pot in which she stays but 3rd egg which I found on 11th was in nestbox which is used by other female budgie.I am not sure who has laid that 3rd egg, but I feel it's of same female who has laid 2 eggs earlier because on 11th she didn't laid egg in the pot. I am confused how she enter nestbox and laid egg as it is used by other female. Both are possessive about their home. So I placed 3rd egg with other 2 egg and removed the nestbox. Other female budgie had not harmed that 3rd egg but was nor sitting on that egg.Have I done correct ?
Thanks

This is one of the problems associated with colony breeding that hen enters other nests and even starts laying in new nests if she founds the earlier nest to be unsafe, or forced by another hen or so on. Egg handling is a very delicate thing to do. You will know if you did the right thing when the hen incubates all three eggs and there is no disturbance from the other hen. So how many nests do you have now and how many pairs?

Hi All Kindly find the breeding setup pic at below URL : imageshack.us/v_images.phpYellow female is sitting on egg. She laid 2 egg in pot n 1 egg in nest-box. so I moved egg to pot n remove the nest-box. white female n blue male are also pair who mate daily but yet no egg sign. Kindly verify n let me know if any changes need to be done. Thanks SAM

Sounds like everything is fine at the moment ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) The eggs will hatch after 18 to 20 days of incubation. Sometimes hens start to incubate properly from second or third egg, so keep that in mind as well. Egg hatching depends on the fact whether or not they are fertile. Also if the hen is incubating fine. Eggs can be candled to know if they are growing but it is only advised for experienced persons otherwise eggs can be damaged during candling.
