Hi guys just wondered if you could be so kind and help me sex my budgie Tony? He's now 19 weeks old and when I bought "him" from the petshop they thought he was a male but wasn't sure. the colour of the cere seems to change daily, sometimes more blue, sometimes more pale blue-pinkish. Much appreciated! Attachments:

Thanks guys, just a quick question; how can you tell so surely? Just curious to know Also, is there anything particular to think about when handling female bugies? Thanks

You can rename her Antonia lol. I think aside from their cere, you can sort of tell by the shape of their head as well.

hi if theres white rings around the nostrils.... its a hen ... . and yes hens do bite harder than cocks ... but the shape of the head .... has nothing to do with the sex .. . well lets put it this way ... if it has iv never heard of it before .. ;D.

I am saying hen too. I have heard of the head shape being different with hens, and Smudge definitely has a less rounded head than the boys, but I don't know whether anyone swears by using that method. Would be interesting to know.

Thanks again guys!
Yeah after studying her now even more carefully it's very clear that she has white rings, the rest of the cere is a very pale-blue colour. I was almost certain it was a male, thought that the cere was just in the progress of going from young to mature. And yes, the biting certainly makes sense lol!

moonkira, I have not decided yet. It's so weird now when I'm used to think of her as a boy. I've sort of got stuck on "Toni"short and easy, but then again I always say things like "Sweetheart" and "baby" lol. Tia was a good name Guess I just have to get used to the change
