Hi all Sorry about making a thread on sparrow health in the budgie health section, but I really need some quick advice! This morning, our cat Monty, brung in a little baby sparrow into our house that he was trying to catch and eat. We managed to get the little baby away from Monty but he is scared. There is no blood injuries, but there might be other injuries. He still has some down on his head so he is really young. Mum wanted to put him back outside, but I didn't think he would survive on his own. So we put him in a clear container with holes on the lid (we didn't put the lid on properly, we just placed it on the top on an angle) I put some blankets in there to keep him warm and tried giving him some water, but he wouldn't take it. What should I do and how can I get him to eat and drink? Thanks in advance, Nicola

When it comes to this sort of thing you can only do what you can for the little guy. Only thing I could advise is what I would for a budgie, as you said, keep him warm and give him some guardian angel in his drinking water if you have some (as I am aware you can give it to garden birds too). Keep him mostly covered as well so he doesn't feel like he is being watched then he might drink. What are you offering him to eat? Hope he makes it x

Nicole, take the sparrow to a vet, or ring WIRES. I take plenty of injured or very young birds I find to my vet, they organise wildlife rescue volunteers to nurse them and then release. Are you QLD or NSW? I think WIRES are in NSW if that is where you are.

Thanks for replying everyone. I am hoping he makes it to the weekend as if he is looking stronger I plan to release him.
He has been a bit more active this afternoon but he is still so tiny ( about 5-6cm long) I have read online to try weetbix mashed up with water. I tried that this morning but he wouldn't take it. I am about to try again. Thanks,
Nicola
