Oh, Outnumbered, I see what you mean. It doesn't look right to me either, but I have not had baby budgies for so long ........... as I remember they tend to be heaps more streamlined. I do hope this is nothing to worry about.

Thanks Hezz, I am not hanging about with this one. I am going to try and find an Avian vet tomorrow. My daughter is the one who spotted Kiwi.

Can you feel the bulge under the feathers? Is it hard or soft? Is it part of the crop?

Your daughter is on the ball regarding your budgies. She is doing well. Good luck with the vet - I really think this is the best option.

Thanks Hezz, The only appointment I could get with an Avian vet was Friday 5pm. I have no way of getting there so my husband said forget money and just get a taxi. The taxi office laughed when I phoned them as its rush hour schhols etc breaking up and xmas parties, it would be about 2 hours just to get there Anyhow the vet assured me that they will fit me in at a time to suit me after xmas so it's not too far away, although it seems like it. The swelling seems to go down in the mornings and he/she is very happy/playful so lets hope it is nothing serious. You are spot on about my daughter, her nick name is Miss Marple, she notices everything. You always show concern and help and it is appreciated

Chances are your budgie is over weight and probably older than you were told I've Had an overweight budgie that looked the same. How's through flying?

Sent from my GT-I9300 using proboards I think he was the age stated 8weeks when I got him/her, becuase he is soo tame and I had to wait until he was eating on his own until I got him maybe he is overwieght. He is flying fine although I did notice him flying to the side sometimes, not sure I am explaining it properly! He is starting to nibble at vegetables but aprt from that what can I do if it is a wieght problem? Thanks for your help

Just more veggies and more exercise - that's about all you can do. Is he "bloated" looking first thing, Outnumbered? Just wondering if there is some built up happening in his crop and overnight that recedes. I have no idea what could be happening to cause this, I am only thinking off the top of my head - writing out loud if you like. I think you are right about his age, too, as you showed us photos before you were able to bring him home. I think someone knowing the ino's would have picked up that he wasn't a baby then. I wonder if he is eating seed too early for his little system to be able to handle properly? Keep in touch regarding Skittles, please. And let us know what the vet has to say. I hope someone with skills than mine can give you some ideas. 'Lil Miss Marples deserves an extra helping of whatever is her favourite for Christmas.

Thanks Hezz, yes it is worse in mornings but to be honest sometimes when you look too much you just get more confused lol He is starting to nibbles veg and is out quite a lot as the cage he is in at the moment is small and he hates going back in it. I will wait and see what the vet says and it will be good for him to get a check up anyhow

Hi outnumbered, just to say re the seed thing. Our babies were in a cage at the breeders with seed and have been eating it since they came here. The smallest was just over 4 wks old then. He is now nearly 9 wks old. His little cere is still pinky purple, Melo who was the oldest of the 3 has started to look much more blue now and he was about 6 wks when we got him, making him almost 11 wks old if that helps you with age. Hope he is ok, will be thinking about you.
