Just wanted to know if this normal.... Winnie has been bullying Ernest often pecking him on he head and chasing him off the higher perches and pecking him when he is sitting on the lower ones there has been a lot of flapping and flying there is not much o aggressive squawking. May I add Ernest loses there lil scuffs lol Do I just leave them to it ? And is Winnie just a moody hen

Is Winnie a lutino ? I have a lutino hen and she`s a bossy little beggar but funny with it , My hubby calls them George and mildred because she always seems to be the boss. Someone with more experience will probably be on in a bit and give you more advice as if its normal behaviour .

Bird Junky your comment has been removed as it is not helpful in any way and I believe it to be very negative.Hi Liz, Are Winnie and Ernest in the big cage that you bought, thats like mine? I vaguely remember you saying you had moved them back into the smaller cage? Or maybe I'm imagining that ;D It sounds like a case of typical bully hen and Ernest needs space to get away from her. I know you haven't had much luck in him flying around outside the cage but I'd advise trying again, making sure the room is budgie proof of course Lots of toys for them to play with, things for Winnie to chew on and destroy should distract her and make sure they have separate bowls (I do this but they still squabble sometimes lol!) If they aren't in the big cage anymore (if they are then don't worry about this bit) then I'd advise putting them back into it. The bigger the cage they have, the more space from each other they will get. It always takes time for budgies to get used to each other, its all about settling in and working out who is boss. I had trouble with one of my hens, Lola, when I got her and it really stressed me out. I followed some advice from a forum friend and put her in a separate cage for a few days. Then I let her out to play with Ozzie (I only had two budgies at the time) each day, but each night she would go back into her own cage. Then after about 4 days I completely rearranged the main cage, perches, toys, bowls, everything and let her go back in. There hasn't been any trouble with her since

The big cage had to be thrown away as there was rust so they r in the medium vision cage Winnie had plenty o toys which she plays with all the time but tends to bully Ernest saying that when she carries on can peck her hard. As for flying I have tried but he seems jut to sit on the top of cage on his wooden frame and sit there does not fly really They can be the best of friends with the preening and sleeping right next to each other but sometimes Winnie can really pick on him and will not let him sit up on the high perches and because she is faster hangs off the top perches and does a air attack lol Also noticed they r doing a lot of that beak kissing thing and Winnie is alway pestering him to do it she always tilting her head to one side and going for his face normally around the feeding station. She is so demanding does not leave him she is either cleaning him or wanting kisses or pecking him on the head. Do think a bigger cage will help its not a small cage really ?

I think space always helps, maybe let Winnie out of the cage and leave Ernest in? Hope that they will find a happy balance soon, poor Ernest being too much of a softie lol, he needs to stand up to her but men rarely win against women do they

He just flaps around and tries to er away she really pesters him and when she is not had to be sat right next to him They don't have a small cage i don't think but more than happy for any one to recommand a good sized cage maybe be with a lot of flight space. Winnie is always on the go playing swinging Ernest just likes to sit sing an eat. I leave the cage open Winnie is always out ernest stays in or sits on the top. She has a very bad habit of landing on the light and pecking the wire which is no good so I have to sit in the same room all time when she is out. I would like a indoor avairy maybe

Hi Liz. Could you try two cages ilnext to each other and let them choose where they go and if they want to be together. We did this when Khloro and babies getting introduced. He eventually chose to go into their cage ( albeit only their cage for 2 days, they had just graduated from the baby cage). Also re light cable. The babies took to landing on our light and did the same thing. I cut a toilet roll tube and squeezed it round it. While protecting wire they liked to the noises they could make on it and could safely chew the edge of it. Good luck

Defently normal Especially if it's a hen, their often bullies. They should be fine but it wont hurt to keep a eye on them just incase it gets taken too far by one of them.
