Hi all and Merry Xmass!! Can you help me out with the gender of Ice, as i'm planning to give him/her its other half as a present? I don't know the exact age, I suppose 10-12 months (i have it 6 months now). I also don' t know if this helps, but it doesn't sing a lot, it squeaks often, it is handled easily and bites rarely and gently. (S)he isn't playful at all! Any clues?

Hi She's lovely. but just a reminder... When introducing a new bird to resident. Quarantine the new bird in their own cage, in a separate room. Adding a cock into a cocks cage is usually not a big problem but adding a new bird into a cage with a resident hen, is something not to be taken lightly. Hens are usually very territorial & have been known to kill or injure new birds introduced into their space. The way round this problem is to place both cages close together for a few days after the quarantine period. Let them fly out together for a couple of days. If they get on you can then put them together, but prepare for the fact that they may never get on ...Merry xmas....B.J.

Thanks for the answers and the advice! Of course I will quarantine and prepare the birds before putting them together! But, still, I can't reach to that point since I'm not sure of Ice's gender, as you can tell . Should I wait for some 5-6 months more for Ice to come into condition, and if she doesn't, to assume that (s)he is a male? If she is uncoupled, will she get in condition for sure? How long should I wait? Thanks in advance AND Best Wishes TO YOU ALL and YOUR families (including the birds!).

The age & the correct diet will go a long way in getting birds into condition....B.J.

Ok Rachel, you opened my eyes! . I'm pretty convinced Ice is a boy and i' m on a hunt for a good bride (which of course I' ll quarantine and prepare properly before mating, if she is of the like of the groom!). On the other hand, the worst that can happen to me, is to be left with 2 beautiful girls! Thank you for now and happy new year!
