Just incase you didn't see my last post I noticed that one of my aviary budgies, Beau, seemed under the weather a little while ago, he didn't seem to move around much and was all puffed up and I saw that he had a lot of poop stuck to his vent. I brought him in the sunday before last in a wooden breeding cage and after cleaning him up I gave him guardian angel in his water for about five days. He seemed to perk up, he was eating but not a lot. I still had to clean his vent another time and trimmed the feathers around it to try and stop the poop from sticking.
After I stopped the guardian angel he started sitting in the corner of the cage on the floor so two days later I put him back onto guardian angel until today.
His vent still gets poop stuck to it although it doesn't seem as much and he seems a little thin but he is eating a lot more than he was. I just don't know what to do to stop his vent from getting poop stuck, I can't keep cleaning him up every couple of days for the rest of his life and I daren't let him near any other budgies incase he has anything that can be passed on.
He's been inside on his own for a week and 5 days and while being a little better (eating a lot more and a bit more active) he is still puffed up sometimes and his vent is a big issue. Any advice on what I should do??

Me neither. There's obviously something wrong, but I don't know what it could be.

I have been back over the vet to ask about Beauty who has poo stuck to her and runny poo again , Vet said she must still have an infection and told me to keep her on baytril in her water for as much as 3 weeks if thats whats needed so it could be your Beau has an infection like Beauty, and she needs some baytril to clear it up

Is the poo runny Rachael or just sticking? I'm racking my brains to remember something posted on here before about sticking poops, maybe someone else can remember where it was... hopefully it could be useful to Beau...

Its not particularly runny, it just seems to be all getting stuck to his vent and feathers and building up. I actually have baytril, its safe in the fridge but don't know if there is enough in the bottle. I will start him on it today and see how he goes. Is it possible to get baytril from somewhere other than a vet? My vet charges a lot and whilst he is good he isn't an Avian vet.

You can buy it online if your vet will give you a prescription but I don't suppose that will help unless you can get a repeat prescription for the baytril you already have. Not sure if you can buy it without a prescription, sorry. How is Beau today?

Not sure if you can buy it without a prescription, sorry. How is Beau today? He keeps alternating between sitting in the corner and sitting on his perch, he seems quite alert though. I will see how much baytril i have left and if need be i will ring up the vets and see what they say. Thank you Sarah

I hope he is OK Rachael- it's so difficult with all the bank holidays and half days etc at the moment to get appointments at vets/ doctors/dentists and so on. I'm glad to hear he is alert though...

He is such a sweetheart, I hate to see him ill He is a lot better than he was but I can tell he isn't right, even without the poopy butt. I have sorted out some baytril and will be able to give it to him from tomorrow. I'm going to give him a bath again in the morning to clean him up, he didn't appreciate it last time lol Until I had let him get away from the water and he sat on my hand repeatedly fluffing himself up so that he splattered me in water haha! Its going to be fun having him in the house for a few months once he is well again and can live with Ozzie & co upstairs. Then when the weather gets warmer he can go back out to the aviary.

Sitting facing the corner with his head down? No he just sits there staring around lol, I'd be more worried if he were sleeping on the floor x
