As most of you know i have a new bud, Inca, who is a year+. I have her in the room next to the other budgies and naturally she can hear them and is calling to them, i have the radio on and am interacting with her and getting her out when i am hear. The question is as she has been with other budgies all her life am i causing undue stress on her by letting her hear the others. Should i put her further into the house where it isn't as noticeable. All my instincts are telling me that she is a little stressed, she looks very healthy but she isnt eating as much as she should and i think she has lost a little weight.

Not sure, skysmum. Try putting her further away and see how she reacts. The calls from the other birds may be unsettling her.

Hello, as budgies are naturally flock birds. It must be more stressful to hear but not see other budgies. Adding birds into a cocks cage is usually not a big problem but, adding a new bird of either sex into a cage with a resident hen or hens, is something not to be taken lightly. Hens are usually very territorial & have been known to injure or even kill new birds of either sex introduced into their cage space. The way round this problem is to place both cages close together for a few days after the quarantine period & let them fly out together several times. If they get on you can try them in the one cage, but prepare for the fact that they may fly together but not get on together in the same cage ...B.J.

You are best having their cages as far apart as possible anyway as a lot of illnesses are airborn so move her into another room further away and see if that helps

Thanks all, i will move her into the sitting room and see if she seems happier, ive put a larger mirror in the cage and she is quite pleased with the other bud looking back at her .

I would remove her as far as is practical for yourself, Skysmum. When you are trying to work with her only half her attention (if that!) is on you while the others are calling out. But the mirror should surely help, and maybe she now thinks the noise is coming from HRH in the mirror. ;D

When im home i spend most of it in the dining room or conservatory. I get her out when the others are having their afternoon nap and she LOVES the mirror and her new bud friend even if he doesn't do much ;D.

Seems like you found a solution, anyway, so that's that sorted.
