Hi there wonder if anyone has any thoughts, Pickle seems really healthy and happy and generally ok. I put clean paper in the bottom of his cage every day and during the day time his poos are really well formed to the point of being able to just pick them up and they dont stick (sorry!) When I come down in the morning however there is a pile of quite loose watery poo that I definately couldnt pick up! Same most days firm and round in the daytime and loose through the night. I have not changed his diet he has trill, an egg seed mix and either veg or fruit most days and of course water. Any ideas?

Helen, I was hoping someone would have an answer to your question about squishy poop. One of my two also produces soft poop in the morning, but the rest of the day, it seems fine. I haven't been able to figure out which one it is. Like Pickle, both seem healthy and happy. I will let you know if I find an answer and/or a solution.

I too have this sometimes, Helen. And I too was hoping someone would give you an answer. With mine, I think it is mostly Smudge this happens with. I did get her checked at the vet a while back when I had her in anyway, but nothing was obvious.
Anyone with an answer, please???

Not sure if I have an exact answer, but maybe some clues.
When my bird became very sick some time back, his poops were bad in the day but always much worse at night. Even once he got back to health, and still sometime now, his nights poops are not as good as his day ones. I did ask my avian vet about it, and he only gave me a quick response as he was about to give my bird an x-ray. Essentially he said, they hold it in at night. I forgot to get more detail from him later, so I never learnt what he meant in a physiological sense.
However, I should add, prior to my bird's health problems, his poops were good both in the day and the night. It suggests to me that a bird in peak condition would not do this. In my case, I believe my bird is now healthy, but still has residual damage caused by his earlier illness.

A poop on the ground is an indication to the ground predators that there may be a easy meal perched above ,better to hold it in than wake up dead.lol
Many of you pet owners feed far to much watery fruit and veg

No fruit, Barrie, and only veg around every second day, sometimes third. These would be a dark leafy green (not taken a whole heap of notice of), carrot (loved), broccoli (loved), snow pea (loved), and lately corn has been available. BUT they do get their grass seed heads every day bar the very odd exception. Could it be the grass, do you think???

All very interesting and most of it makes sense but like Hezz although I offer fruit and veg, Pickle very rarely bothers with it. The holding it in for a predator makes a lot of sense though. Like I say he seems very very healthy, talking, chirping, flying about doing his tricks, he has started bringing toys to us!
