My Nanna had a look at pics of my cage set up these were amendments . Half perches r not very good and at least have a full one as she does not like them being stuck on ( her words) a mm of stick . To many toys birds r meant to fly around the cage not climb around it :-( . Flight paths between my rubbish half perches no good for Ernest Wing span she said he would be hopping not flying . Perch clearance from top of the cage as birds fly up and across need more head too . Big dangly toys to heavy and plastic take them out get natural wood and things . To many mirrors The list goes on lol we live and learn she loved Rachael toys seal of approved by my 90 year old Nanna who loved the natural materials so they can practise natural bird behaviour She is a tuff cookie !

She also made the point of them having a lil lovers tif because the half perches did not proved the room to get away and Winnie would start the game of chaise longer perches full length would let Ernest move and normal would stop the flapping and chaisin off prime top of the cage perches. Very true never thought of it like that

Very true never thought of it like that. Also he needs 360 clearance so his tail does not touch side and Winnie I did try to do this but half sized perches r not very good. Saw a post about using a ladder as a platform which is good done that to

Sounds like she has experience, you are lucky to have someone who knows things like that, most of us learn by trial and error and then by lovely people on forums like this Longer perches are always good and whilst there should be a good variety of toys, there should be enough room for them to fly from one side of the cage to the other

She like your toys she said keep them and pointed the rest she said bin lol !!! She teaches me loads She says budgies r happy flying then playing with toys even though they r fun she has never been keen on plastic toys to many mirrored toys she hates to. I have changed there cage it looks bare I did over do it on the toys. Something I did not think about is many ppl put stuff in the cage at the back so it's all facing the out so we can watch them. And not use the whole space to much stuff on the back wall nothing at the front. She told me off said its not about my viewing pleasure lol

I completely agree with everything your nan has said, Liz! Think for the birds, not for yourself. I would take note of every little thing she brought up - we need more nans about! Sounds like your birds will benefit from nan's visit ..... or are you visiting her?

Liz I think you are doing brilliantly... sometimes it's hard to be told what to do when you've tried to do your best and hope you have it right.
But.... your Nan really does sound as if she's good at giving very good advice.
It's great to hear you are listening and improving your budgies' home as a result.
Well done to you and Nan!! I bet your birds will appreciate the make over too.

You have done the best you knew how for your birds and continue to do so, so that's full marks to you as well as Nanna! Keep the other toys aside, you may like to swap a couple now and then for variety. If they stop playing with something you can remove it for a while then when you put it back they will treat it like it's brand new and never been seen before!

My budgies get so excited when they haven't seen a toy for a while. They bounce around the cage tweeting their little heads off ;D

Toy swap - I agree. I have two sets and change them around weekly. Occasionally they get one they haven't seen for some time, but mine aren't great toy players anyway. Smudge is a bell-basher, Misty still a bit of the acrobat, and Sparky the odd mirror, but mostly they would rather fly around with each other, munch on grass or preen. It is wonderful you have the benefit of Nan's knowledge, Liz. The birds will love you for it.
