Hello Folks, I'm Andy and I own a beautiful pale budgie called Sky who looks white at first glance but she changes colour when in sunlight. I work at a 'lifer' prison which is sadly closing. Many of the inmates had birds which will now either be sent out to relatives or go to a local 'Bird man' to fill his aviary. I was fortunate enough to be 'gifted' a bird by an inmate who was transferred to a jail that doesn't accept birds. Sky had what I believed to be 'scaly face' as her cere was huge and disfigured. She had been treated with vaseline and I thought it best to take her to the vet at the earliest opportunity. Before I got her to the vet, the 'scabby' bits dropped off and she looks normal now. Sky seems very happy to have got parole and she's doing really well with me. I'll try and post some pics in the appropriate place. Thanks for reading.

Hi there Freddie. Sky looks gorgeous in your avatar. So glad she's found a new home.
If there are any remnants of the scaly face left, a med called Ivermectin 0.1% is thing to use. You pop a drop on the skin on the back of their neck. (similar to the pet dog drop stuff). It fixes all types of mite, including the Scaly burrowing mite. Check Sky's feet too. Scaly mite likes to burrow in there too, in the the scales.

Thank you Stace, I'll get some Ivermectin online and treat her anyway. She hated the journey from work to home - I really don't want to box her up and take her to the vet because she won't speak to me for a week. She's really picked up in the very short time I have had her home(just over a week)

I'm having issues posting pictures from my drop box onto here. Any advice welcome please... I'm not sure how dropbox works. I've seen people use it for photos on the forum just as a URL address that others click on that takes them to the relevant dropbox files. Does Dropbox give you options to copy the coding for the photo, then insert it into the forum? Most of us use an image hosting site, like Image Shack, Photobucket etc. We copy the IMG code for the photo then paste that code into the forum's reply box. Does that help?

Just to add, in case it assists. When you hit the REPLY button, on the top right (not quick reply, mind) the sixth icon from the right in the new window seems to let you insert a URL.

Thanks Birdguhl, much appreciated. I kind of got round the problem by posting the images onto my FB account and copying the link onto here. For those who are interested, the link is in Bird Health section under 'Scaly Face'. I will get a photobucket account for future postings - thank you peeps

Thank you BudgiesBuddy, your appreciation of my little friend pleases me greatly. Sky's eyes are pink. Her plumage is a very pale blue in certain light and she has pink wings/cheeks and purple also on her face. At first glance she appears white. She chats away when the TV is on so it's hard to hear what she is saying but we have made out 'Pretty Boy' and Good Shot'. She apparently swears but that's not surprising for an ex jailbird.
