I always just thought that (blue) Berry had big eyes but it has struck me that there is a big difference between Woody's pupils which contract and dilate very markedly depending on his mood and behaviour (e.g. during displaying) and Berry's which seem to stay the same all the time. I know that fixed dilated pupils is not a good sign in a human, but does anyone know if this is a cause for concern in budgies? I have posted before about Berry's feather loss problem and we are in the process of working through the more benign possible causes for this before perhaps going for blood tests for the dreaded PBFD. Is it possible that the dilated pupils are a telltale sign of anything which might have a bearing on this? It is quite a thought to put him through the risk of general anaesthetic etc for a condition which can't be treated. This picture doesn't show the eyes issue particularly but is a recent one and gives an idea of his general condition.

Hmm, Birdguhl, I don't know the answer to this. Maybe someone else does.

It is a very interesting question. I do not know the answer myself but I hope someone does.

This may be a silly question, but does Berry have an iris ring? I can't tell with that photo.

Yes, he does - if this is what is shown in this pic (pre-feather loss days) but that is as much as you can ever see.

Barrry, what causes feather stress? Is it different from just plain old stress? Is it something that you can treat?
