The budgie with short tail is a female. The budgie in the last picture is a male.
Both budgies are "Greywing Skyblue"

They are lovely.
As long as you do not give them a nestbox, or place to breed they should be fine.

Thanks Marianne, i love them too, its so nice to watch them interacting and chattering away, a bit like an old married couple now i know she is Erica & not Eric!
deff no plans to breed so will make sure there is nothing suitable for nesting in.

Hi Debbie, love your budgies. I see what you mean regarding the wings and tail feathers of the hen ...... the cock looks like he is missing some flight feathers too? We have a number of members who have FM budgies and they may be able to give you tips on how to make their lives a little easier. Was the hen like that when you got her, or has she lost her long feathers since? A more experienced member may be able to tell you whether it is FM or feather-stress, although the photos I remember seeing of feather-stress is more of an all-over feather loss, not just the long feathers. Regardless, they will bring you tons of fun.

Hi Hezz, the hen had 1 normalish long tail feather which fell out within a week of having her,& she has 2 very thin crinkly ones left. she had no long wing feathers at all. i assumed that it was because they were babies and that she was just slower in getting hers, but in a month nothing else has happened ive just watched the male stretch his wing out & he only has 2 long feathers in each wing, and thinking about it he has never flown from perch to perch, they both jump or climb the bars. so i guess they both have something wrong with them? anyway, looks aside i love them to bits ,just a bit sad that they wont be able to do everything normal budgies do.

They are FM birds , give them time and a good diet they could grow them back.

Yeah, a shame they may, stress may, never be able to have a good fly, but then lucky for them that they landed with you. As Corie said above, a good diet and time, and sometimes the feathers seem to grow back a bit stronger, or rather the feather follicles seem to be able to hold the feather better.
