Help needed please!
Disco is 10 months old and he has become lame on his right leg.
This is the second time in about 6 months that this has happened. The last time we took him to the avian vet who examined it and manipulated the foot and leg and said he had probably knocked it and sprained it in a fall and it would probably get better by itself. It took about 3 weeks but it did get completely better. Now we are back to square one. He is resting it on the perch and he can put weight on it but he is trying not to use it. Also it seems to be slipping to one side on the perch, as if he has no control over it. Other than that he is eating and drinking normally, his poops are normal and he is his normal affectionate and crazy self! I am so worried now because someone told me it could be a tumor. I am going to make an appointment to take him to the vets anyway but I have a few questions:-
Can budgies that are so young get tumors? If it got better last time by itself surely it cannot be a tumor?
Any ideas/ thoughts would be appreciated. I know I have to get a professional opinion but until I go to the vets I just thought I'd ask if anyone has had any experience of this kind of thing?

Sorry to hear about Disco. I remember you from last time. I don't have experience with this sort of thing, but I do know that young budgie can sometimes get tumours. Just like us when we get tumours in childhood.

Thanks Stace I was hoping more people would comment Yes Im afraid we dont have much luck with budgies, we've had 6 in 18 years the longest living one was 7 years and the shortest living one only lived 6 months I just wish we could have one who lived to be 12 years old I would love that!

Just an update - Disco is getting better every day he can now grip the perch and climb the bars again. Maybe he fell and hit the leg again like last time as he does like to sleep up in the corner of the cage against the bars! I have moved all items in his cage that he can fall onto which might hurt him, so hopefully he wont be lame again. Of course I will keep a close eye on him (I am an over protective Mum!) and if anything worrying happens he will be off to the vet.
