so my 2 foot tube heating not really up to the job??i have set to 10 0c and its about 4 0c out side now and the bird house is only about 8.5 what heater doe's everyone else use?

my shed dosen't have any heating! But I have got a little fan heater for when I'm in the shed and its freezing outside! Budgies don't seem to mind the cold!

my shed dosen't have any heating! But I have got a little fan heater for when I'm in the shed and its freezing outside! Budgies don't seem to mind the cold! I asked the breeder from whom I purchased my birds. He had no heater in his aviary but did use a 120w light bulb which apparently gave off heat when it was on. When I asked about insulation he said his aviary shed was not insulated either. The reason he gave was it provides lots of hiding places for mite. I'd feel a bit concerned leaving my birds in an unheated shed with the very low temperatures we have during UK winters.

sorry iv not been on here much of late ... only just seen this thread ... im glad you have sorted your heat problem ... my self i always used a oil filled heater with a thermostat built in ... but iv been told the tube heaters are cheaper to run ... regards mick... .

Gosh Mick - I bet you used a fair bit of electricity to run an oil filled heater (radiator?) This winter my birds are in the conservatory where we have a balanced-flu gas heater that stays on low over-night to keep them warm. So far the minimum has been 11 oC with an average of around 14. Come the summer I'm hoping the aviary will be ready for them and the following winter they will have to tough it out with a tubular heater and lots of insulation.
