I have a cock in my aviary with French moult. How long does the virus live on the bird? I was going to breed but if the virus is still live and there is a chance it could be passed on to the chicks I wont bother breeding. The cock has a red ring on his leg, not sure what year that would be. Since I have had the bird he has grown his tail feathers back and his overall feather condition is very much improved. He can fly now, not as well as the others as he is tiny, but better than he could.

Hi, i have a boy that was one of two chicks that i bred myself and he is 10 now, he has always suffered FM. He isnt the worst case and has over the years grown back his feathers and had a period where he could fly but this is short lived. The older he gets the worse it gets and he is now at a point where his flight feathers on his wings will just not grow back. They have it for life and i would never have bred from him because the chance of passing it on is very high.

I would never breed from Titch, but was wondering if he could have passed the virus on to unrelated birds. They are from different breeding stock and didn't meet until well after he had left his nest.

Oh i see, no it wont pass on to other birds unlike PBFD, ive always kept mine together with no probs and it wont be passed on to other chicks in the aviary ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) .

Thank you. That is a relief, I thought my dreams of breeding were over then. ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png)
