Hello all. I am just wondering if anyone has experience of blood in semen? I am a bit worried about my Phineas...

Ooooh, I'll leave that one for the big boys, Sweetpea. I too would be worried.

Let's hope one of the experienced breeders can help you.
Is it definitely in the semen and not from an irritation or small wound near his cloaca? I guess what I'm trying to say is, has he rubbed himself too vigorously and done some minor damage?

Poor little Phinny.
My first thought was the same as Stace. Can you examine his "area" and see if it's red?
My Sky is very enthusiastic when he does budgie boogie and I am sure he rubs himself raw.

Initially, I thought it would be because he was rubbing himself raw but there is now more blood (more than in that photo). I think I will grab him & have a look.
On the good side, if it were not for the blood I would not think there was anything wrong with him. He is just as lively as ever & his poops are looking good.
These guys are SUCH a worry!!!

He could have an infection then. Might need a vet trip.. Yes, I think a vet trip too. I'll try & take a look at his bits, if he'll let me... I wonder if I should give him some baytril regardless, as I think I have some left... If he HAS rubbed himself raw then what would be the remedy? I can't tell him to "go easy"...

Budgie condom??? I don't know what the solution is there ........ make sure all his rubbing items have no abrasive bits?

Budgie condom??? I don't know what the solution is there ........ make sure all his rubbing items have no abrasive bits? He'll rub on the bars of the cage & a particular perch & my finger too. I guess my finger is the softest. I grabbed him yesterday to take a look but he must have the fluffiest bottom ever as I couldn't get past the layers of feather & fluff. I couldn't feel anything odd. I might try again but maybe use a little water to try & part the feathers.

I think they do it on purpose, Sweetpea - fluff up their bottom feathers whenever it is you need to check them out! Good luck finding the cause, and a solution.

I tried again to look at his fluffy bottom & attempted parting feathers with water but with no luck. I will put him on baytril for a few days & then encourage him to jiggy-jiggy with my hand. Otherwise he's in great form, practically bouncing off the walls, much to Cagney & Bezukhov's dismay as they are trying to have a nap....

Just using a little bit for a few days isn't good practice if you want to knock any infection on the head.

I was thinking of about 5 days but as it happens the baytril I have looks a bit "gloopy" so I'm not going to use it. I will book the little tinker in with the vet....
