He's not very good at jiggy-jiggying to order. Good point about a glass slide. I have photos as I also thought he would be shy around new-comers. Usual vet is away at the moment so earliest appt is next Thurs. Currently Phineas is wooing Cagney but Cagney is not succumbing to his charms yet. I will get my hand ready... If anyone has not seen it yet, this is what I have to put up with..... Hand jive

The damn video only gave me a black screen. I could make most of it out, though, by moving the curser along the bar. Not sure what was going on there. Good luck with the vet, you two.

An update. We had our vet visit today. He asked lots of questions about his general well-being & basically, apart from the blood in semen, there were no other symptoms I could report. I think that the blood, along with other symptoms, is more of a cause for worry. The vet also gave Phinny a prod & a poke & said that there was a very slight inflamation in the vent area but no lumps or growths (thank God).

I don't *think* the two things are related, blood in semen/jiggy-jiggying & being a pest..... Though I'm open to opinions! In fact, if he didn't boogie-woogie on my hand I would be completely unaware of the state of his "deposits". He's still a complete handful though.... I'll update my other thread. www.budgerigarsforum.proboards.com/thread/5022/odd-numbers-work?page=2

Good news, but not really satisfying result (unless you are Phinnie, I suppose, tee hee). Any reason why the slight inflammation around his rear end might be there? Besides over-action?

Good news, but not really satisfying result (unless you are Phinnie, I suppose, tee hee). Any reason why the slight inflammation around his rear end might be there? Besides over-action? Just over-action.... which he agreed was a difficult one to solve! He spoke about sterilization & hormonal injections but did not think Phinny's case warranted such actions. I felt, in advance, that my trip would be wasted in the sense that there would be no solution as such, but I feel better knowing he could not feel any lumps or bumps - we know how common these things can be with budgies. I have had a talk with Phineas though & told him to "tone it down" a bit. I am not sure he was listening though....

Glad it's not anything serious and just Phinny being naughty!

This is all very interesting - thank you, Sweetpea and others. Being new to budgies, I am very innocent about this sort of thing. (Well, I had budgies as a teenager but I was even more innocent then). A couple of weeks ago I caught sight of Woody behaving a bit oddly at the vine chewy thing they have. At first I didn't think much of it. Then the next night I saw him doing it again, and I realised - ohhhh! - he's all grown up now... (No sign of Berry doing same yet.) Then I saw this thread and it struck me that the vine chewy thing is unlikely to be a very nice thing for him to cuddle up to and could injure him too. So I looked for something that would be smoother and rounded and pass for a lovely affectionate hen who is up for a bit of the serious business. I got one of these balls: I haven't seen him using it for intended purpose yet. Maybe he will stick with the viney thing. Do you think this is a good option? Has anyone else got any suggestions? He isn't hand tame so I don't see him doing a Phinny. Are there such things as sex toys for budgies?! Would a plastic budgie be at all appropriate?

No, I don't think anyone has given any thought to sex toys for budgies (I am trying very hard to keep a straight face!!!!!) , maybe we can lob this ball into Rachael's court , but seriously, Nina, if you are really concerned about the "vine thingy" ........ take it away. Woody may stop altogether, or he may find an alternative.
