Now ive always been a bit OCD when it comes to the buds water, changing it up to three times a day and more if i find seed or a bit of fruit and veg in it. This morning however i uncovered them to find not one but two poos in one of the tube feeders HOW. So today ive done a detour to the pet shop and bought them a hamster bottle. I know some peeps on here use them, question is, does it take long for them to discover how to use them, should i leave one of the old ones on for now until they get used to it or take it out so that they discover it sooner.

I use the hamster bottles for my boys. They worked it out quite quickly. I did not take the water fountain out until I knew they were happy with drinking from the water bottle. However, when they got together with my girls I had hoped Atilla & Raspy would use the water bottles too, but they point blank refused! But I noticed that even with the water pot for my girls, the boys still chose to sip from the bottle. Phineas, my newest recruit, also worked out how to drink from the hamster water bottle. Sometimes it's enough to play with it to catch their interest or put a favourite toy near it. They are great as there is no way they can get a poop in it! I often see a poop on top, but not inside it.

Sweetpea, I agree completely. Even down to the girl/s not going anywhere near! The only time Smudge has gone anywhere near it is when I have held her and brought the spout to her beak ........ not that the beak ever stopped still long enough to take a drink - she bucked and kicked all over the place. GET THAT THING OUT OF MY FACE!!!!! The boys, no problem, and where all quite keen to check it out, water or not. So at the moment Misty is in the boy-camp for this alone. And yes they did seem to pick it up quite quickly (if they were going to at all!). If you play with it, bop the valve up and down while they are paying attention (looking for a drink) it is a cinch.
