I'd like to know if its vital that budgies have baths? if so how often? does it need to be water or sand?
also how often should they be treated for mites? whats best to use? I live in the uk could beaphar spot on be used as it contains ivermectin.
thanks in advance. amy

Hi Amy, baths help your birds keep their feathers in good condition so it is good to offer them a bath of clean tepid water (as they will drink it as much as bath in it!) In the summer they may like a bath more often to keep them cool. Get some Ivermectin by Pharmaq for your budgies, make sure it is the 0.1% strength one and follow the manufacturers instructions which is basically one drop applied to the skin on the back of the head. It's a waste if it goes on the feathers, plus they could eat it. It is not designed for oral application which is dangerous to your bird. Also don't get it on your own skin as it might make you unwell... I hope this helps, Sarah

Mine won't use a bird bath but love to be spray misted :-) If you only have a couple of budgies then the beaphar is ok. Just works out expensive if you have several budgies. A few years ago we used to post our ivermectin on to people who needed it on the forum. One little bottle has about 100 treatments if I remember right! And as its only applied once a year alot of us were wasting it. Maybe we could start doing that again :-)
