I was just reading about applying Ivermectin and that it is not to be ingested, for this reason we put it on the back of the head so the bird can't reach it. What about other budgies when they preen each other, surely they must ingest it then?

It is supposed to go onto the skin of the bird, not the feathers. So the amount another budgie would get should be mimimal. It is absorbed into the skin, so the danger time is only that first day.
