Hi all ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I have been wanting to put the nesting boxes back in the aviary, as Daisy and Gilbert look like they really want to have a go at being parents. However, last time we put the nesting boxes in the aviary, Georgia, wanted to take over Lilly's nesting box by bullying her and not letting her come out of her box. So this time (I don't know if this will happen because I am still trying to convince my mum to let me breed them ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) ) I put a nesting box in an old cage we have and use it as a breeding cage. So, I am wondering if we did get any chicks, what colour they would be. Here are the hopefully parents! Cock: Gilbert (normal green) Parents- Mother:Opaline Cinnamon Light Green Father: Normal Skyblue ![](http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m499/NicolaTom101/10454725-fc77-4568-a1e9-4a1908a1feed_zps0a155f5d.jpg) ![](http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m499/NicolaTom101/9e4ded25-150b-4944-b3d0-d1c69f92728e_zps14c751ea.jpg) Hen: Daisy (Yellow Face Grey Spangle) Parents- Mother: ? Father: ? ![](http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m499/NicolaTom101/4ed5672b-0a45-43ef-8e66-775d1538f6e2_zps5d9efc47.jpg) ![](http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m499/NicolaTom101/26f1b658-7b04-4636-8039-f9ab56782d36_zpsbf8e11a1.jpg) Gilbert and Daisy are sooo in love! They sit together all the time! They evern share a mirror with a perch that is meant only for 1! They love being with each other so I think they would make great parents! Anyone have any idea what colour chicks we could expect? Thanks in advance, Nicola P.S. Don't mind the wire in the pictures of Daisy. I gave them milk thistle yesterday tied it onto the perch. I take the wire out at the end. Also, yes, Daisy is still young, but I am not planning to breed them for a few months yet. And one more question, how old should hens be before you breed them? Daisy is probably 4-5 months now. 1 year old?

12 months old for breeding is rule of thumb. Someone else will do the genetics.

Thanks Hezz ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Daisy will be 12 months in November, but I think I will wait until March 2014 to breed them as Summer in Australia is just too hot to have budgies stuck in breeding boxes. So is Spring. August is a nice time to have them breeding. Gilbert will be 3 in May 2014 and Daisy will 15 months. Nicola

OK, I'm not 100% sure that this is all definately correct !!! but I think your normal green cock will be split cinnamon and opaline from his mother. This would result in all male chicks being normal, but some (50%) will be split for cinnamon and opaline. Hen chicks will be 50% normal, 50% opaline or cinnamon, or maybe mixed(not sure) . As opaline and cinnamon are both sex linked genes and work in the same way.
He is also split blue from his father so as your hen is white based there will be some white based chicks. And with the dominant grey factor in the hen this could make some of the yellow based chicks grey green and white based chicks grey. Although if the hen is single factor grey there will be some normal blue and green chicks.
You can expect 50% spangle 50% normal.
I think the same applies for the yellow face.
So in short the possibilities are........light green normals, grey green normals, sky blue normals , grey normals Some opaline and/or cinnamon hens Some yellow face Some spangle normal males in all above base colours. Some spangle females in above base colours + some of them cinnamon and/or opaline.

Lol, its like a maths equation! Scribble down the formula and out pops the solution. Mind you, not sure the formulas right! ![](http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn156/levisnat/0042.jpg)
