So I have had Charlie for a week now and the only sound I've got him to make was one quick little wisthle when I played birdsounds for him. I know all birds are different but seriously I'm starting to worry... He doesn't say anything! I know he probably feels lonley but I try to go into his room as often as I can and talk to him. He eats and drink like normal but other then that all he does is sitting on his perch. Not exploring his cage or anything. As far as I know he haven't played at all with his toys. I can understand that he's probably is still a little scared of me but the fact that he's soooooo quiet and not at all curious? (btw his poop is also fine) Thoughts and opinions much appreciated

How long does he spend on his own? Maybe he needs a bit more time to settle in.

Ooohhh that's a though question Mizloco, but it varies since I'm working fulltime now (that's why I bought him as company for Toni but he's in quarantine at the min). It can be anything from just a few hours a day in total to about 8-10 hours depending how me and my partner are working. I mean I hope he will cheer up once he gets to meet Toni but so quiet?

To be honest i really dont think you have to worry....A week really isnt that long especially that he is in a whole new environment...My Elf took a few months before i heard just ONE sound from him and it took him a WHOLE LOT LONGER to go near let alone play with any toy...I really think hes fine

Thanks Moogie, yeah I was thinking I should wait at least a week before I posted anything here lol. I know some birds take longer then others just thought it seemed so long. And I'm sure he will be allright as soon as he gets to know Toni. Just never seen a bird SO quiet lol

Ok I've been looking for different ways to encourage him to make some noise, so as I'm typing I'm sitting by his cage with my laptop listening to radio. Literally 2 min after my last post he starting chirping and tweeting. Sorry for keeping everyone from answering more important questions

It was a standing joke in our house as to whether Kiwi moved at all in the first few weeks. My husband used to come home from work every evening and laugh at how he was in the same position as he left in the morning lol. It took a couple of months for him to start chatting and playing but he turned out to be the sweetest happiest little boy RIP. Once we got Lilly it was non stop chatter or Lilly shouting at him lol but soo entertaining to watch them. Don't worry, eventually they will both be chatting at full volume

Good to hear Charlie is now chirping & tweeting. When my Phineas was in quarantine he was very quiet too & sat on the same perch for hours on end. Like you, I was worried too. Now he is with my two boys he is like a different bird.

Just keep on chatting and interacting with him as much as you can. He'll be fine, I'm sure. A week isn't long at all. Have you started taming yet?

Ok guys so now I have something to ACTUALLY WORRY about, just noticed Charlie have a lump of poo stuck to his vent? what do I do? is it a sign of something? It has normal colour and he's still eating/drinking. I have got some guardian angel in the fridge, should I give him some of it? help ASAP please !

Look at the poo on the bottom of the cage. What does it look like? Is it okay? (Post a poo and bird pic if you can.)
What has he been eating? Did he just eat a whole pile of veggies?
Look at the bird. Is he fluffed up? Look at his eyes. Are they nice and round and alert, or semi-closed or wincing? Is he still active?
If he's looking at all unwell, keep him extra warm, remove all veggies and only feed seed and water and some of the GA.

Quite often it will simply be a poo stuck to a feather, end of story. Often it will fall off itself when having a fly around, or if it is worrying you, catch him up and gently remove it. If it is well stuck, you may need to moisten some cotton balls or similar and gently soak it off.
One lump is generally not a concern. It is when there starts to be a build-up that you can start to worry.
