Ive got a budgie with a possible broken wing. If it is broken whats the best option for him? Especially if it cant be repaired and amputation is required? I know an avian vet is a must. He is in a small cage untill I can find someone to drive me vets

Sorry I can't really advise without seeing a ptoto. Has it just happened? I would say a vet trip is a must for him if it is. I have a budgie with a damaged wing but she has had it since before I adopted her so theres nothing I can do for her. Let me know how you get on at the vets x

Hmmm it really does look like a broken or hurt wing I am sure that your vet will be able to advise you better after examining him though x

When I was a kid we had a budgie that broke it's wing. There weren't vets like there are today, or at least we never used them, so my mum put his wing back into place and wrapped a bandage round him to hold it. I know it's not a good idea to do that now as there is no guarantee it will work but it worked for our Jerry and he lived a long and happy life. So yes a wing can be reset but it depends on the damage. A vet would be able to asses how bad and the best way to treat it.

Get him to a vet definitely before he gets too stressed and hurts it even more. Poor little guy, I hope you can find a vet open on a Saturday...

Hi Starling, when you did the wing reset, did the bird fly at all after that I really can't remember to be honest. I was only a small child, I remember it happening, my brother stood on him, he did it another time too and broke his leg. Mum set that with a matchstick and elastaplast. I know that worked as he did walk again. i would like to say he did fly again because I just have a feeling he did but couldn't be positive.

Hiya didnt realise there was any other replys but was worried about him he seemed energetic enough didnt take him vets it didnt bother him at all jusy couldnt fly at the time. But gave him rest for couple weeks in a small cage to discourage moving about then noticed his wing was improving and he was flapping about to the point he is back in the aviary and yes he can fly and is still himself Sent from my GT-I9300 using proboards

Great news! He's such a handsome little fellow. I hope he flies to his heart's content after his much needed rest.
