Hey all ! I think Ernest needs his nails clipping spoke to the vet ( non avian ) he said I he starts to cut them he will need to be seen ever so often to get them done at 25 quid a pop ! Right well my question to u all is it cheeky to get in contact with Ernest's breeder to see if he needs them done and if she will do them as the vet can be a bit of a rip off merchant that will insist all animals need help ..... At 25 a pop ! I don't know if he needs it done but one I then is slightly curling. Now I can't send a pic as I use a phone which is a bummer but . As breeder out there is this a cheeky request I don't mind paying for there time but 25 quid Jesus !

Are you sure the nails needed to be clipped? It is very easy to tell: if the foot sits flat on a flat surface such as a table, the nails are fine. If parts of the toe are lifted up off the flat surface because of the nail, they need clipping. Claws are meant to curve - they are going around branches, after all. Unless he has some underlying health problem, if he has natural perches of differing diameters, his nails should look after themselves. I feel you may have unnecessarily caused yourself and Ernest a whole heap of angst.

Hard to know for sure without a pic, but I think a lot of people clip claws and beaks without needing to. I'm not saying this is what you've done Liz, but a bit of curl in a claw is okay.

Skys curl so much he has to lift his foot sometimes. He really hates having them done, screams blue murder and is hard to catch But we manage. Usually just two that overgrow so you can tell they are much longer than the others.
