Yes the wings have definatley been clipped. The wings should grow back quite soonish. When I clipped my birds wings (didn't know better) her wings grew back after the next moult

Hi, I also have a budgie I suspect has FM. He is an adult and he doesn't have any flight feathers on his tail or wings. He can't fly and the breeder told me he had always been like that, I felt sorry for him so I took him anyway. Everywhere else his feathers are perfect but his tail looks ragged and the short feathers he does have are twisted and deformed. Can anything be done to cure FM or ease the symptoms. Thanks

There is no cure for FM. Good nutrition has improved my FMs overall condition but his tail still falls out after a few months and he has no power in hi wings when he tries to fly. He can fly further than he used to but it's more of a hop and flap than flying. The main thing is he is happy and gets about the aviary and plays with the others.

Agree with Starlingqueen - Candy's wings have been clipped, but not too badly (phew!). At least you now have tail feathers coming through, that's a very good sign. It may take a week or more for them to be fully fledged feathers, but they are there and that's the main thing. With the wing feathers, because they have been clipped you will have to wait until Candy moults the cut feathers out and grows new ones, before she will be able to fly. If the feathers had been dropped because of stress, the new feathers may be slightly odd, but the next moult should sort that out. I am flummoxed as to why the store would have a cage full of budgies with no tail feathers ............ I'm suspicious they have done it on purpose.

I am flummoxed as to why the store would have a cage full of budgies with no tail feathers ............ I'm suspicious they have done it on purpose A few years ago my local garden centre stocked loads of FM budgies continously! I said to the manager of the pet area they should have a word with the breeder they were getting them from, and perhaps even change the breeder rather than encourage them to keep breeding FM birds, but was told they liked to sell them like that and used to explain to customers that as they couldn't fly so they could catch them and make them tame easier Also they sold well because some people felt sorry for them! I did make a good bit of fuss over the following weeks and gave them hell for selling budgies with scaly face and also one with a wing that was broken but reset wrong. They started to buy in healthy stock eventually. Read more: budgerigarsforum.proboards.com/thread/5642/french-moult-help?page=2##ixzz2OuX4WVin
