Could anyone tell me what sky is? and also the pet shop told hubby she's around 3 months. It's hard to see on these pictures but sky has a solid black eye with no iris showing yet. She also had what looks like fading bars on the top of her head. would this put her at 3 months? cedrics 6 months and has no bars on his head now he also has the lighter eye outer bit. here is sky

Hello, Sky! You are very pretty and I hope you and Cedric will be very happy together.
I am no expert but I think that she is a pied dark blue/violet. One of the knowledgeable forum people will no doubt pronounce on her correct mutation.

Whatever colour she is "Sky" is a well chosen name.
(I can't even name the three different blues that I have! Hopeless!!)

Sky is a spangle pied, further than this I'm no expert on mutations. Because Sky is a pied, the colour of the eyes will remain black without a ring, and the cere is unlikely to show whether Sky is a hen or a cock. With pieds I wait until the mating season and watch their behaviour to be sure. Sky's age is therefore hard to pick. Having said this, he/she is absolutely beautiful!

Hi blade I'm not sure about her age, but 3-4 months sounds right Her colour is an Opaline Dominant Pied Grey Blue Spangle I think. If her true colours look like her colours in the last picture, it should be along the right line Nicola

marlee - there is no cere or eye or iris ring issue with dominant pieds, they have iris rings and navy blue ceres in case of males. what u said is somewhat true in case if recessive pieds, and the bird in question is a d.pied.

Shes gorgeous and looks in very good health :-) I also would say cobalt opaline pied spangle, but in the pic she looks rather violet and Cedric also looks like he has a voilet factor too, so I wondered if its the lighting in the photo which can play havoc when taking pics of some blues and violets :-) Or are they both violets? :-)

Cedric is a mix of green and blue, the lighting isn't great I took that pic last night off my iPhone. I'll try to get better pics of her and him.
So she could be a he? She looks like a hen to me with her cere being pinky/with white around the nostrils.

Only recessive pied males have a pink cere and the recessive pied hens have normal hen coloured ceres so should be easy enough to tell apart. They also don't develop iris rings. I think this is the type of pied that Marleen was talking of. Dominant pieds ceres and eyes act as any other colour birds so I think you are correct in saying shes a girl. There is no chance the pied colouring in her is recessive pied as this is a genetic impossibility as the mutation is recessive to spangle and pretty much everything else ;-) Also the white spot she has at the back of the head is only characteristic of dominant pieds. She will develop iris rings in time, I think its usually around 5 or 6 months :-)
