Some of you may remember I posted a thread a few months ago about my sick budgie Joey. Well after a few weeks he looked fine, until this morning when my mum found him dead at the bottom of the cage. Quite a shock to us, beacause he looked fine, he was eating, and drinking and chirping all the time, he was 6 years old (. Now I'm really worried about my other budgie. Health wise, she looks fine but I'm worried because they have been together since we got them and she's jumping about the cage chirping, I guess she's looking for him. My mum did say not to get another budgie. I really don't know what to do now cause I'm now really worried about her, that she dies of lonliness. I'm sure some of you have been in this awful position, I really don't know wether to get another budgie or what?

Aw, sorry to hear that :-( I would get another budgie and keep them separate for quarantine for 4 weeks. If your budgie was ill for several weeks and kept in the same cage without the other picking anything up from him its quite likely it was not something contagious, but perhaps an internal tumour or organ disease. If your hen is over a year old she might prefer the company of a male over a year old rather than a very young one. Sometimes hens find pre breeding age budgies a bit irritating when kept in close confines together. Often people have older budgies for rehoming on Preloved. Or breeders give away older birds :-)

Sorry to read this. If you do decide to get another, nat's advice is spot on. Maybe work on your mum to allow another bird, but there will be quarantine time needed, separate from your existing budgie.

Rest in Peace, sweet little Joey. Keep his cute face and happy song close to your heart, and he will be with you forever. When the time is right, I hope you decide to get another budgie.
