While I am on the health page I thought I'd write a bit of an update about Freddie. Some of you might remember him from the old forum when he had that huge tumour on his chest for about 18 months which mysteriously disapeared, only to grow internally near his crop causing him sleepness nights, a permanent squeak, bacterial infections one after the other..... After several weeks/months on baytril the vet told me I might as well keep Randy his mate with him for what looked like the last baytril week and said to bring him in to be pts when I thought the time was right. Then they started getting jiggy! She layed eggs on the floor at an age I wouldn't consider breeding any hen! so I thought I should let her hatch 4 eggs so put them in a nestbox for her to be more comfortable. She hatched them and 4 chicks arrived.....from the time the chicks hatched Freddie hasn't had baytril! They are well over a year old now! Now this is what is really strange. I go into the birdroom at night when the lights are off and DON'T hear Freddies squeak! I feel like I might be tempting fate by writing this, but its such a strange thing But good :-)

I certainly remember Freddie's tumour, squeak, and the chicks. Amazing to think he has beaten another health issue. Well done, Freddie and Nat.

Lol I'm charging muy camera battery to take a pic or 2 of him :-) Sadly one of the 4 chicks died suddenly and totaly unexpectedly a few months ago with no symptoms of illness Just fell straight off the perch during the night. But the remaning 3 are Lagudin, Ribot and Frottola (the surprise of the clutch who turned out yellow face albino!!!!) meaning Freddie is secretly hiding the ino gene ;-) I do think Freddie still has his tumour as he still squeaks a little bit if hes exerted himself and kips more than others in the day, but I think hes sort of learnt how to manage life with it and not get so worried about it. Perhaps thats why having the chicks helped him. It must have taken his mind off his own problems as he was so busy.Every day is a bonus :-)

Cheeky Lagudin who is just like his mother used to be when she was a kid lol

I think Randy was 5 when she laid. It was really scary as I hadn't intended for a minute to breed from her at that age. Lots of calcivet was given! I think Freddie will be 7 in october :-)
