Hi All, I've recently purchased a (nearly!) natural looking breeding box. This is the first time I have decided to breed budgies so I am new to all of this. Just trying to read up and do as much research as possible. From the pictures below does this box look suitable. Is the entrance hole the correct size. I have placed a 2p in for scale Thanks in advance, Gandalf...

Not to ignore you, but I have no experience so will flag this for BudgiesBuddy.

Looks a bit tight in the doorway possibly, can you measure the diameter so we can be certain of the size please? Looks lovely though! Any chance of a view in from the top too please?

Yes the size would tell whether it is OK or not.
Entry hole looks small. What type of budgies do you have?

Hi sorry for not getting back sooner - busy at work... as usual Just measured the entrance and it is 3.25cm to 3.5cm in diameter. My budgies are normal green and sky blue but also slightly violet English budgies. Is this the correct terminology?

Hi, i love this nest box, it seems big enough, the usual ones are about 21 x 13 x 13 and this is about the same. The hole maybe a bit small though, i think the other ones are about 45mm, and be sure it has a concave piece in the bottom. Could be a bit difficult to clean though, the others have a pull out concave. Looks nice though .

I think it is 5 inches on two side. If that's right, it's on the smaller side.
Cleaning it would be difficult too.

Thanks for all the tips and advice. I've fashioned a nice concave shape out of a piece of wood to sit in the bottom of the nest box. I will use a drill to make the entrance larger by half a cm or so. You are all correct, this will be extremely difficult to clean. But I guess this is how you learn (the hard way). I'll look into some with the side opening for easier access to the nest box for cleaning tasks...
Thanks all again
