Question about Charlie (new bird in quarantine) - does this regurgitate look normal? It is quite thick and opaque. I am washing his mirror a couple of times a day as I'm worried it could be related to an infection. Apart from his wee quiet spells he is lively.

I cant be sure, all I know is that a budgie will regurgitate to a mirror as he thinks he will be feeding another budgie. Keep washing the mirror tho as good hygeine is paramount and hopefully another experienced member will be able to help answer this further soon

Remove the mirror and see if he does this again.

I second BB's advice. Remove the mirror for a couple of days, give him a toy in its place, and see if he still does it.

Thanks - I am curious as to what your thinking behind this strategy is...?

Thanks - I am curious as to what your thinking behind this strategy is...? The mirror might be overexciting him and causing him to over-regurgitate.

All normal , all my male pets have done this. It's very hard to stop when you move the mirror he will find something else to do it to, with one of mine i took everything out of his cage just left perch's and food and water bowl, you guessed it he started doing it to his food bowl, so i gave up and put everything back.

It looks perfectly normal to me, I have to agree with Corie. Blue's mirror used to look the same when he was going through this stage.

Hi. I agree with the reply from Hezz. It is normal and safe. Pet budgies quite often do this particularly if they are the sole bird in the cage. Essentially they think that the mirror is another budgie and they are feeding it. I used to have aviaries and birds will regurgitate to feed other birds. It is the nice social things that they are! Just clean the mirror on a regular basis and of course the cage etc with a bird safe disinfectant available at all pet stores.
