Hi all Some of you may remember Rocky from my recent posts regarding his wing. We've had him for two weeks and he's about 10weeks old now. He's not bothered by much is very lively and loves to join in with the crowd when my hubby watches footie on tv! We talk to him all the time and I think he may be starting to try and say a few words but I'm prob just imagining that lol He steps up on to my hand readily but since I had to catch him to give him medicine when his wing was hurt he'll get off again pretty quickly, and uses your hand as a route between perches, so I think the taming process has gone slightly backwards as he was happy to sit for longer previously. He eats millet happily from my hand, and will sit on my hand while he plays with his toys. All in all I think he's doing pretty well. Now his wing is better I'd like to start letting him out of his cage but wanted to check whether you think he's at the right stage of taming for it as his step up is now a little unreliable? What do you think? Any advice much appreciated, I don't want to rush him but I think he'd enjoy he freedom of being out. Just a bit worried about getting him back in his cage again

Hi again Well just went for it in the end! Opened the cage door and let Rocky come out in his own time, while I just sat close and chatted to him. He had a fly around and then decided to have a sit on a picture of a tigers head. No respect for big cats lol! He decided it was worth a bit of a chew so I had to move him off it. He was happy to get on my hand so was pleased with that. He stayed out for a while and then let me out him on my hand and back in his cage. Success!

Glad it all went well :-) Lol at him sitting on the tiger and chewing it! :-D Sometimes I feel bad when I put down newspaper on the aviary floor that has the ocasional 'bad' pic on it like a cat, dog or politician! But it seems budgies are indifferent ;-)

Yeh, it's a pretty lifelike painting and it's near his cage. You'd think it might scare him but obviously totally unbothered. I was just worried the paint might be bad for him so didn't want him to chew it. He gave his bell a good bashing when he went back in his cage, was very pleased with himself been quiet this evening though, been a tiring day for him I think. It was just lovely to see him flying when last weekend we were at the vets because I thought he'd broken his wing!

That's great news. About the noises he's making. It will be him trying out sounds. Just keep on talking to him and he'll soon pick a few things up.
