I have no reason to think this isn't ok but thought I'd get the people who know to have a look. Is Rocky's beak a bit too long or ok iyo?
Hope this vid is clear enough, just a quick attempt this evening on my phone, couldn't catch him doing a full yawn which is when I thought it looked long...
Thank you very much everybody xx
( hope the link works, doing this from my phone, will check on pc a bit later x)
Thanks, glad to hear it - this wasn't the best angle but I specifically filmed his having a chew so you could kinda see his beak. He's coming up 11 weeks now I think so I guess he'll also be moulting soon - I think I can maybe see a couple of tiny pinfeathers coming through on the back of his neck - but - again - not really sure what to look for.
Have yet to persuade him to take a bath too - might have to resort to a spray soon.
Oh, and apologies for the slightly poopy cage - I've had a throwing up bug last couple of days so he's overdue for a clean out. Didn't want to mess with anything today in case I'm still infectious but will be having a thorough scrub in the next few days x
A front view of the beak would help. It looks a bit long but with the chewing he does this should come right. I have had birds with beaks where there was an "overbite" (or should I call this a "side bite"?)i.e. the bottom and the top of the beak did not fit together properly and were a bit diagonal. In their case the beak grew dis-proportionally and had to be clipped back regularly. This was a genetic line I stopped breeding to avoid this problem, and I have not seen this since.
Thanks guys. I'll try and get a better pic or video this evening. Hopefully there isn't a problem as I guess not good in a baby, used to file my guinea pigs teeth but don't fancy trying beaks! x
Back again, couple of vids this time, not exactly thrilling but Rocky gets a bit of a surprise at the end if each one he's a big boy now, eating proper bits of broccoli lol
Apologies for the noise in the background, Rocky was watching Any Given Sunday and that's Cameron Diaz swearing, not me
First one is a bit longer but you prob get the best shot of his beak near the end. He has a lovely Montana cage but its not the best for getting pics!!
Does his beak get the ok from these? Thanks everyone xx
The second video is a bit clearer and I think he's okay. It does not look like he has a funny bite, and the beak is not too long. He has enough wood etc. to chew on, so I would not worry for now.
I'm amazed how well he eats his broccoli, I'll have to try this more often with my birds as they pull up their noses at the moment!
He didn't touch veg for the first week I had him, then after reading on here I grated him some carrot and just the very tiny broccoli 'buds'. He decided he would eat them but only if I held the bowl for him! Only took a couple of days though and now he loves his broccoli, and he's on baby sweet corn as well now. Eats more veg than me haha x
Mine eat boiled egg, puha (not sure what this is called in Europe, a green weed akin to dandelion) and silver beet, another green leaf vegetable. They pull up their "noses" to just about anything else!
