I have recently wrote an article for the C&A Paper its about Javas and my way of breeding them but i breed all the birds in the same manner.
Basically i strongly believe bonded birds that have been conditioned together for 2 months breed alot better than birds that are just put together in the hope they breed.
I dont believe in seperating sexes i believe this increases the chances of having homosexual males that will not take any interest in the hens.
By doing it that way with the budgies and javas this year i have bred a record for me of 98 chicks from 5-6 pairs of budgies and 16 chicks from 1 pair of javas, my javas and budgies filled every single egg with no infertile eggs only dead in shell, the proof as they say is in the pudding and this is my way of breeding birds and it works for me!!
My article goes into more detail of what i am talking about here its in next weeks issue.

Well done, Owain. I am not a breeder but what you say makes sense to me.

The outcome of this when i tried it with the Javas was they laid there first egg in 5 days from when the box was opened, and that first egg was fertile. All Java breeders split sexes and condition that way they dont see eggs untill 14-20 days time or the eggs are infertile or the pair dont get on. I did the complete opposite and developed the bond over 2months when they were housed in there breeders and conditioned together. I will be doing the same again next year with allthe birds.

I agree with Owin. Some of my cocks have become homosexual, and they are not taking interest in females. this is big issue for me as well.

fully agree owain . Although im not a "big" breeder with only a small amount of birds. I never knew budgies could turn to the "dark" side so to speak . I'll look forward to seing your article .

Yes Ryan, it works and it makes sense but there are breeders that will frown at it, I just prefer success over failure so i do it this way!
