It's not fattening. Seeds are all they eat in the wild. A good varied diet consisting seeds, millet sprays, fruits and vegetables is ideal.

It's not that millet is fattening. It's more that some or many birds prefer millet over their other food, so might ignore other elements of their diet.
I tend to give millet every second or third day or so, and save it as a bribe to get my bird into his cage or as a treat when I'm going out for a while.
I really like that it's a food they have to interact with and eat like they would in the wild. There are a few different varieties of millet, so if you can get a range and rotate them it's even better.
If you can get your hands on fresh seeding grass heads, that's great too. They just love that.

Thank you, I didn't know there were different types of millet. Yes they get a varied diet I'm glad they are eating fresh now.

I tried to find millet in my hometown and it appeared that we have only the one brought from Germany and consequently expensive ( 166 rubles for a pack of 30 gr! 166 rub = 5$ )and God knows why they dont produce it in Russia!!!!!!

It is not quite the same, but could you try growing your own from the seed you feed your budgie with??? You probably won't get the lovely big long sprays that are grown commercially, but I have let mine grow to heading and the birds seem to love it. But they are only puny little sprays compared to what you can buy.
