So I took Luee and Berry to the vet today because Luee had been fluffed up and a bit listless, and both seemed to be breathing in a laboured way.
Being in this strange situation didn't stop the wee sweeties canoodling and preening away as usual.
Berry's breathing was pronounced completely clear but of course he is a scruffy wee mite with polyoma or beak & feather disease the most likely cause. I will probably get a recent feather with pulp in it tested for this so we know for sure.
But the priority is Luee whose breathing was a bit noisy (more abdominal air sacs than upper respiratory tract) and - very surprisingly - was found to be very thin. You would never know it without feeling his very sharp keel bone as he looks quite plump. His weight is 55g but he is a much bigger bird overall.
Fecal samples didn't show up anything, so we may be looking at liver or kidney problems.
Treatment is starting with 10 days of Baytril in case there is a bacterial element and F10 nebulised twice a day in case of fungal infection. The nebulising will be for all of them.
So, another round of observation and treatment commences just as Woody is nearing the end of his... I am cheered by the fact that Woody is very lively this evening and has been seen to be attempting to chat up his iodine block.
Little sweetie Charlie is still keeping my budgie morale up, bless him, but introductions seem likely to be delayed again...

Have a look here: www.avianbiotech.co.uk/disease_testing.aspThey do all those tests and more, it's who I use as they tend to be cheaper than vets, it's also who my vet recommends Did you vet say anything about the Psittacosis blood tests?

Hope the treatments work. Poor sweet babies. I hate it when budgies aren't feeling their best. Hugs to everyone.

My heart goes out to you, Birdguhl. It's really hard when your buds are ill like this. My bird was very sick for several long months requiring endless vet visits and it was touch and go for much of that time. He came out of it okay eventually, so I really hope you have the same result.

At least you have treatments in place to help them through all this, birdguhl. And hopefully these will work wonderfully. Good luck with it all; let us know how you get on.
