We prefer half flights for the budgies reason being there is no wasted space i.e below the perches and the bigg bonus room underneath for storage.
Give your reasons why?

I can see the pros and cons for both Owain but personally I went for full height. Reason being that I could put feeders etc at all levels so birds could all access feeders/drinkers etc regardless of pecking order. Not many of my birds liked being on the ground anyway but it also gave them exercise of flying from top to bottom to play/eat veggies/hide etc. I didnt have a huge indoor flight anyway so giving full height gave the birds more area per bird.

Thanks for taking the time to post Lorna, when i had a walk in flight for the budgies i found that i had a 3 foot gap from the last perch to the floor and it was a little bit of a waste i thought but not only that the birds werent eating that good compared to now they are in half flights, so its a 50/50 thing for me i like them because you can get in there to clean well.

i have a half flight in one shed and a full height shed in the other all birds can access both through the outside flight budgies mostly use the half flight for some reason and the javas and zebras the other ,but they do wander between both so i am torn between the two and will probably incorporate both in the new shed regards gerwynmr2

I think I will consider half flight for my next birdroom Owain because I can also make it longer. Gerwyns birds have the best of both ! It was easy enough to clean the tiled floor but, not getting any younger I wont miss the crawling under the perches to get to the back of the flight with my brush and shovel!

Way i thinkof it lorna ive given myself extra storage but this time i have one flight top and one flight underneath on one side of my shed and another 1 flight with storage underneath on the other side. I have alot of flights and 12 breeding cages, i have 6 large flights.

Read next weeks cage and aviary i have an article in there on how i breed my Javas.

Give your reasons why?[/quote My new aviary build is a bit of both. Will have 24 inches high for storage underneath and 5' 9" of aviary height on top. I have a small space and although I'd prefer a walk in aviary just for ease of access, the storage is just as vital. I think 5' 9" is ample enough height for them to fly and keep fit
