We prefer half flights for the budgies reason being there is no wasted space i.e below the perches and the bigg bonus room underneath for storage. Give your reasons why?[/quote My new aviary build is a bit of both. Will have 24 inches high for storage underneath and 5' 9" of aviary height on top. I have a small space and although I'd prefer a walk in aviary just for ease of access, the storage is just as vital. I think 5' 9" is ample enough height for them to fly and keep fit On my half flights i put large doors Nat to make things easier, but watch you will get 1 fly out the door.

I thought that most breeders used half flight as nursery cages for under 4 month birds.
Whereas the full/walkin flights for adult birds.

I've had both and the birds seemed the same in both only difference is i have more room. Not all exhibition breeders use walkin flights bb most only have half flights.

I thought they all had walkin flights Why have walk in flights? most walkin flights have 3 foot from the last perch to the floor of nothin, you cant put perches there so its just wasted space, where you can use for storage. Also cleaning is easier in the half flights no crawling around under perches. Personal preferance BB.

i have a full walk in flight at the moment. I am planning to get a larger aviary built next year and am hoping to have a walk in flight in and a half flight. I wouldnt just go to a half flights as my birds do use the full aviary they do fly to the floor and trot about pecking at dropped seed ect.

I think that's because budgies fly side wise??? I dont understand your post? I mean to say that wider flight are better than taller flights as budgies fly from one side to the other and not from top to bottom.

Full height for me as the half flight bottom becomes a haven for dust and clutter

Full height for me as the half flight bottom becomes a haven for dust and clutter If you put doors on the cupboard underneath it does help barrie, what i did was 2 half flights top and bottom.

[/quote] Mine has a 5' 9" door so its sort of walk in but with a big step up first so mare of a clamber up and in, then stand up straight;) No worries about them flying out as its indoors The aviary was finished today so the birds went in and the storage space is already full to the brim a pic showing the under storage and ply dust shield on top Doors on the storage not done yet

Thanks Owain. Theres a decent window in the room, but I'd like to purchase a dust extractor as well when my bank balance has recovered from the new build;)
