I am so chuffed, hubby returned from the States today with my order from www.mysafebirdstore.com/ I got my stainless steel hardware that I was after .... woohoo! and also bought some toy parts and two more happy perches. I didn't go mad with toy parts as hubby obviously had to fit all in his suitcase, but got a little selection. Some mini bagels, medium bagels, leather bits and palm leaf shapes. The washers are part of my hardware and screw sets (screws and stuff not shown on the pic), but we bought two sizes and these ones are huge, so I thought they might be nice for using in toys too. I put one with a few other bits onto my new stainless steel skewer (thank you Stace for suggesting this - I love it! ) The shop added three stuffed fingers for me to try which I didn't order - so sweet of them, and it turns out these are Millie's favourite. I know peeps on here are from all over the world and this shop is in the States, but I just have to say that they are awesome. Fab products, very quick delivery and prices are good too. A big thumbs up from me.

Great haul, Lousette. I've bought a lot of stuff from the US, mainly for the stainless steel products. Silly that we can't get them at home.

I agree, such good stainless steel products. I am reluctant to order from the states as customs charges here is a killer, so whenever Matthew says he has a trip I go a bit mad buying things that I cannot get in the UK. Up to now it has been scrapbooking and craft stuff for my job, but now that I have found all the birdy stores over there ...lets just say the credit card company will be pleased

I think I may have to place an order despite postage costs to UK, I have been preusing the stuff, and some of it I definitely NEED! As soon as I can find a way to justify it to myself I think I'll be making a purchase ... Lee is rolling his eyes...

As soon as I can find a way to justify it to myself I think I'll be making a purchase ... Lee is rolling his eyes... Hee hee - so funny. Sorry to be an enabler but you are right, they have great things don't they. Those finger traps with the crinkly paper stuffed into them .... A BIG HIT! Millie has already chewed one up completely and another is on it's way to be no more. Postage is not always the problem though, it is the blinking customs charges. Just check that out before you buy. You don't pay customs up to a certain limit, although I don't know what that is now, used to be £18, but I think may be a little higher now although not much. If the value is over that and the company has declared that on the parcel (some places kindly undervalue their goods on the declaration, but they are not supposed to) then you will pay customs and a postage handling charge. HOWEVER, as they are quite cheap you may be able to get quite a bit for under the customs limit. They have dollar deals etc. which are really good value.

Oh my ... it seems they have actually REDUCED the limit and it is £15 now. It is the VAT charge that is so low and not custom sorry. Here is an extract from the HMRC website
2.3 What are the limits for customs duty and import VAT? ◾ Commercial consignments i.e goods you have purchased, of £15 or less are free from customs duty and import VAT. Note: This does not include alcohol, tobacco products, perfume or toilet waters; these items are excluded from the relief of duty and VAT at import. ◾ If you are sent a gift with a value of £36 or less, which complies with the rules shown in paragraph 2.4, it will be free from customs duty and import VAT. Gifts of alcohol, tobacco, perfumes and toilet waters are subject to the limits shown in paragraph 2.5, while gifts of perfumes and toilet waters are subject to the limits in paragraph 2.6 ◾ Customs duty becomes payable if the value of the goods is over £135 but duty is waived if the amount of duty calculated is less than £9.
As soon as you have to pay import VAT they charge you a handling fee. I once had a parcel that was 50p over the limit (I kid you not), I had to pay something like 20p import VAT on the total value of the parcel and an £8 handling charge. I was FURIOUS. I have also had parcels over the limit come through without any charges, but it is a chance you take. The actual VAT is not that much, but Royal Mail levy the handling fee no matter what the charge.

Ouchy! I am about to put in an order for something different, but we has similar "one off's" - never know whether you are going to be hit or not. As soon as you mention "pet supplement" on anything you import in Australia, you get the big knock-back, but qualify it as "human" and it seems all is good!!!! Hubbie's going to US in July ...... I wonder whether I can get Guardian Angel labeled as a human supplement? ?

I can also recommend these guts for stainless steel toys: Www.avianstainless.comRocky adores the toys I got him from here, service was great. They're in Canada so I'm not sure how import taxes work from there but I didn't have to pay any extra
