Hi everyone A friend of mine decided she would like to add a budgie to her family. She wanted a young one so that it could be hand tamed easier and that her children would be able to handle him. She got a little male budgie from a woman that her sister suggested and was told he was 8 weeks old. I saw photos of him and told her he is older than that, I think at least 6 months old. He also had scaley mites He had the crustiness around the sides of his beak, on his face. So I gave her my Ivermectin to treat him. She brought him to my house to check first and I showed her how to give him the first dose and that she would need to clean all his cage out thoroughly after each treatment. Its about a month later now and I found out that she got a baby hen from a breeder I know through facebook a few days ago. I messaged her about the first budgie and she said that he still has the crustiness around his face. So now I am stuck on what to advise her to do. I am going to check if the baby has already been treated but I have no idea what to suggest about the boy. What should she do if the Ivermectin hasn't worked? She really loves the little guy and I just want to be able to help but I am stumped.

I've never heard of it not working Rach, maybe you didn't get it on the skin just the feathers. I would retreat.

I would retreat as well - both birds now. Most info I have seen and been given say either two or three treatments a week apart. He may not have gotten enough.

With Elfies mites we had to do 3 treatments i think the first 2 were 2 weeks apart and then the last treatment 4 weeks after x

Sorry I don't think I explained very well. I gave him the first dose and she gave him the second and third doses when she was meant to. So would it be safe to retreat him? He did have a lot of feathers that kept getting in the way so she may have had trouble getting it onto his skin.

I reckon that's what happened.
