Hello everyone Been away for a few days and my parents have been looking after my budgie (still in the same house, he's had no stress of moving etc.) They said he's been active and happy the whole time (and noisy!). Came back last night and he was as playful and noisy as ever, everything was normal in the cage. However, this morning there were some droppings (6/7 of them) under his sleeping perch that are twice the size of the normal stuff, same proportion of urine and faeces, but the darker bit is dark green opposed to black. He doesn't eat greens - cannot get him to eat anything other than the seed mix yet, so I know it's not that. They're not runny at all, and the urine part is white. He's been so excitable this morning and he's been out flying around again and chattering away to me. His droppings have been normal since I got up, do I need to take a sample to the vet, or should I wait to see whether it happens again? **EDIT - he's finally started nibbling the iodine block in the cage, if that's anything to take into consideration?**

I'm not sure of causes, but the vet would probably ask a fresh sample of an odd looking dropping so the old ones would be not much good for testing. I would keep a close check and if it starts again then a sample to the vet straight away might be a good idea to catch any problem before it gets worse. If you could get some bird probiotics to go in his water for a couple of days it might help him with any digestive problem he could have had. Glad to hear his droppings are normal again now :-) If you are feeding millet sprays it might be an idea to disenfect it with a vanodine solution and dry it out before feeding. The way millet sprays are shipped can mean they can be full of baddies like fungal spores and some cargos have even been seen to carry rodents!

Good point, I didn't think of that. Nothing abnormal since this morning, but I'll keep an eye on him. Had no idea about millet sprays being possibly iffy Not good, he's been eating loads what with taming him and everything, so maybe that could be it. Thank you

The millet sprays should always be soaked in F10SC solution and dried before use.
