Hi
Over the weekend I found one of my aviary budgies (about two years old)on floor, he could not fly, previously been eating normally but with feathers fluffed up and breathing heavily. I have brought him indoors in cage, he sits on floor and is eating, still breathing heavily and when I bought him in only one foot was clenched, but now both are clenched.
I have been administering in food and water Guardan Angel
I have an appointment to see an Avian vet tomorrow, any ideas please
Many thanks
Chris

Oh dear. Poor chap :-( I'm afraid I don't have any ideas on the problem but it sounds like he needs to be kept warm if hes still fluffed up. Perhaps hes flown into an aviary wall and hurt himself? I found this article on foot paralysis. www3.sympatico.ca/davehansen/nervous.html

How's your little guy doing? Keep us posted after the vet visit. Good luck to you both.

I hope all goes well for you at the vets! What Nat said about flying into the aviary wall... Last year when I was on holiday a sparrow had flown into glass doors and temporarily paralysed itself. It recovered, so hopefully your budgie will be okay as well. Fingers, toes, claws and wings crossed for you!

Thanks all for your posts and kind wishes, sorry for delay in replying. Vet checked him over and said that he was paralysed from lower part of spine, thought it was either a blood clot or as a result of a bacterial infection. As he was still eating and was not in any pain suggested I carry on using Guardan Angel and if no improvement by beginning of next week to bring him back.
Last night he was eating well and when I moved him to put clean paper in bottom of cage, he bit me, seemed lively, moving around on his tummy, tried to pull himself up side of cage.
This morning he was fine and was eating when I left for work. Sadly this afternoon he passed away.
Once again thanks for your wishes
Chris

So sorry, Chris. You did all you could to help the little guy. Unfortunately nature dictated otherwise.

Rest in Peace, little one. Run and jump and fly around with all our budgies who have gone ahead to show you the ropes in Heaven. They leave us much too soon, Chris. I am so sorry for your loss.
